I just got got to give a shout out to Jessica. You are an amazing server! So attentive to detail and so interesting to chat with. The food was alright and the atmosphere was a bit loud, but Jessica made up for all that. If I was a local, I would come back just to see her. She really is that cool. Oh, and for the person who said "A push-up bra does not guarantee a good tip", my personal research and experience in waitressing begs to differ. Unless there is a jealous heartless customer who never served people for a living at the table. Jessica, you could wear a potato sack...and still make good tips. YOU are that COOL. Sorry some customers are not.

Had the grilled salmon with mango chutney and mango salsa- so good, not too spicy but flavorful. Veggies were well seasoned and tender! A good surprise for bar food. Hubby had the wings, loved them. A fun atmosphere on a Saturday night in September.

We happened upon this spot while checking out the area. It had a fun outdoor patio section that we were told to help ourselves too. It took awhile for someone to come and get our drink order and even longer to get the drinks and they were not that busy. We all enjoyed our cold beverages though and the atmosphere as well. I would check it out again because who doesn't want to sit outside and enjoy an icy cold drink out of a pail?!?

My wife and I stopped in here for breakfast on a sunny morning in May. After a long, hard winter in PA it was wonderful to be able to sit outside and enjoy a meal. Wife had an egg sandwich which to her surprise had the egg sunny side-up and too messy to eat as a sandwich, lol. Was tasty. I had a sweet sausage omelette which came with jalapeño peppers on top. I had to remove those before enjoying the omelette. My fault, did not read the menu thoroughly. Good hash browns and coffee. Being a bar and grille, I'm guessing breakfast is not their forte, but we were looking for a relaxed atmosphere and we enjoyed the food, the sun, and the whole experience.

On my 1st visit for a late lunch I was hungry and ready to try some of the tempting menu items. The menu was large but featured way too many fried items but since they were pushing it, I tried it anyway. Had the fried grouper sandwich and it was terrible. Simply terrible and I could not even finish it. My friend had theblackened grouper and said it was so-so. Our server was nice and fairly prompt so that was a plus. Bathrooms were not terribly clean and the place was kind of dirty in general. Seems more like a late night dive bar than anything else. Probably try another place next time.....

Nothing really special about this place, but they DO have some $5 drinks that are pretty good for the price. We waited about 15 minutes for a table for two on the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend. What was odd was that the place wasn't packed. I mean, it was busy, but not packed like you might expect for a bar in the village. My drink arrived and it was wrong, so our server gave it to me on the house and promptly delivered the Chilly Willy that I had ordered. It was really good for a $5 cocktail. We were jonesin for some dinner so I ordered the shrimp tacos which were actually pretty good, and my husband ordered the fish tacos which were also pretty tasty. Their taco menu has several different options, but the sides are where they can improve. I chose chips/salsa as my side, and it was pretty gross. The salsa was right out of a jar. In fact, it looked and tasted like Old El Paso picante sauce. For the price of this entree, I'm surprised they can't get a chef to make some homemade salsa to accompany the chips. A live musician was performing when we were seated (after 9pm), but stopped playing at 10pm when they switched over to a DJ. This was when we knew it was time to head out. The lights dimmed in the back of the place (we were seated outside under the open air section right out front -- great for people watching), but could see where the DJ was playing. It just wasn't our scene, but I suppose if you're in your mid-20s, you might like this. Overall, this place is fine I suppose. It is HUGE, with a ton of seating at picnic tables all the way past the bar in the back, so if you just want to drink you might want to head back there. If I'm looking for tacos again in Siesta Key, I'd pop in here if there was no wait. Otherwise, I'd skip it and go somewhere with a bit more character that felt less like a chain that I could visit in any other beachy town.

Cool atmosphere, friendly staff and great location. The only problem with this restaurant is that the food is awful. Worst grouper sandwich I have ever had. When I informed the waitress she served me a warm beer, she informed me the ones from the outside bar are warm and if I wanted a colder beer (note I did not say a cold beer) that she would have to get it from the inside bar. Plenty of better options in the village.

Down town siesta key was crowded and parking was limited. We saw this place had some empty tables and went in. The table we were seated at was very sticky. And everything; arms, menus, and drinks stuck to it. Waitress was friendly. Food was below average. The empty tables in a crowded siesta key should have been a warning sign. Pass on this place. Many more better options in the area.

It's possible that Gilligan's is a good place to hang out with friends after leaving the beach if you want a few drinks while looking like you just came from the beach. However, don't eat here. Girlfriend and I came here for dinner on July 4. Service was horrible. Our server kept going to other tables and while I hate doing this to servers because I think it's disrespectful, the only way to get her to come to us was to wave her over. And we weren't being impatient, but when your glasses sit empty for 10 minutes, and you ask for the check but it takes 15 minutes and then she doesn't come back for the credit cards for 10 minutes...anyway, you get the point. I am guessing the issue was it's a holiday - especially a beach holiday and this is a beach community - and we weren't drinking and she was busy. However, she didn't have trouble standing at the table next to us and chatting up a storm (and completely ignoring us in the process). What doesn't make sense to me is why you wouldn't at least check on us. If we were an undesirable table because we weren't drinking and our bill was small, then if you had checked on us at all, you probably could have gotten us out of there and turned the table at least 20-30 minutes quicker. And, guess what, we're good tippers. So you could have gotten us out fast and gotten a good tip on the check. Instead, you had us sit for way too long and got a sh*t tip for it. Food was mediocre at best. Neither of us were impressed. I don't even remember what I got, but I didn't like it all that much. Best you can say is that it was food and it was edible and I didn't vomit. Skip this place for food. If you want some cold beer or something, then fine, but you can get that somewhere else, too. There are much better places on Siesta Key

Good local bar and a must stop on the Key. Seriously, who goes to these types of places for gourmet dining. Keep dining selections simple on the Key; stick to items that are fried and don't require culinary skill.

  • Jon V.

Not sure why the reviews are so low. We had excellent service and the food was great. Drinking cold beer, listened to some good live music, and watching all the activity on the strip made for a good time. Yes, there's no air conditioning but hey, you're on island time. Salt Life!

After laying on Crescent Beach for two weeks and regularly seeing Airplanes fly over pulling banners advertising Gilligan's my brother and I thought we would give it a try. This place didn't even come close to my expectations. Everything went down hill from the moment we walked in the door. To begin the hostess only showed us the specials as she didn't have a full menu for us to see. We listened to her describe how wonderful the food was and decided to sit down. We got a table and waited about 15-20 minutes for our server to come take our drink orders. We ordered a pitcher of beer which tasted watered down. Our server then asked us if we were ready to order. We then informed her that we didn't even have menus yet. So we waited for menus and then ordered our food. We had to wait a very long time for our food to come. The food was worse than regular bar food. The only reason to visit Gilligan's is for cheap booze during happy hour. Don't bother trying anything.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!! We had been at the beach all day and wanted AC. We asked and were told they didn't have any were "an outside bar". So we decided to go ahead and sit on the front patio. The original seat was in the sun and I asked for the shade. She told me they didn't have any and I pointed out one a few tables down. (The restaurant was super slow, not sure why this was a huge ordeal.) I was given the "sigh" and we were given the table. My spouse asked what beers were on tap and we were told 4. We ordered a drink and went on our way. When it was time to get the check, we couldn't figure out why our server was always inside by the bar. Well, because they DO have AC. (First strike against them.) My spouse discovered this when he went to the restroom. So we decided to go inside and finish our pitcher by the bar. Well needless to say they have 12 beers on tap NOT 4 like we were told. This is called laziness!!! (Strike 2.) Also, while sitting at the bar for about 20 minutes we were never acknowledged. (Strike 3.) I am really unsure how this place is still in business. If they were not surrounded by tourism daily, they would not have lasted a month. TIP to the owner/manager: Customer service is everything these days in order to stay in business. ALL of your staff needs a lesson is customer service 101. THREE STRIKE AND YOUR OUT!!!

Ghetto-fabulous w/ a tourist-trap island theme... crap tourist food, cool bartenders, tacky, really, really tacky florida/hawaiian gimmick.... you're on Siesta Key in SW Florida, wtf is w/ the Hawaiin shout-outs? silly, but the pickled zombies that come in would never know the difference... I add a star because until I spent an evening here, I have never seen a woman squatting in a men's room urinal thinkin it's normal... Ghetto-tastic!! Stay classy, Gilligan's! Thanks for the memories, if I was 10 years younger, 10 beers drunker & kicked in the brain by a donkey... this poser joint would be my spot! Redonkulous & hilarious!! Good times!!! cool outside area tho, so there's that.

  • Robert V.

By all means resist whatever temptation you may have to eat here. Other than the god-awful Blu Que this is the worst food in the village. "Gross" does not accurately describe the fare served here. For a real treat stop in for a beer on a Saturday evening and check out some if the finest denizens SW Florida has to offer. It's quite the show.

  • Just Me E.

Average bar food and drinks. Surprisingly small selection of draft beers for a place this size. Staff looked almost exclusively college-age to mid twenties, and a lot of the female servers sported bare midriffs or short-shorts. One in particular was rockin a mean muffin top and showing heinous camel toe. Service was just ok. Live music even during the daytime andthe tiki hut beachy atmosphere provided a nice backdrop for people watching. This is definitely a party bar skewing to the young drunk set, and I wouldn't go near this place with a ten foot pole around spring break.

Had to send my cocktail back because it tasted like bleach. Switched to a fruity pail cocktail and it was fine then we had a long island cocktail and it too tasted like bleach. Ordered the conch fritters and they were OK but came out burned and were still served by the bartender. An off duty bartender was sitting next to us at the bar getting hammered on free shots as she tried to pick up one of the tourists. The rest of the crowd was pretty iffy too. With so many other choices in the area there really isn't any reason to go here.

This is where I spent most of my nights here on siesta key. Good sliders and pretty good drinks. Also some great live music. This is also where i met all my friends i made this vacation. Some pretty talented bartenders, one in particular who does magic while making drinks. He throws bottles all around, never seen him brake a bottle, but his drinks are very good and he is entertaining. In my opinion this place had the best live music the whole week i was on the key. reggae one night, female rock vocalist and some towny rock guys who were pretty good as well. i cant wait to go back!

  • Darnyel D.

My girlfriends and myself went down to siesta keys for vacation and discovered Gilligans on our seconds night, needless to say we went back ever night after. The bartenders were super attentive and made us feel right at home (especially 'Squeeks') Gilligans has a beach like atmosphere with a peppering of a city night club. The music there is really fun to dance to and it is easy to request anything they haven't played! We never tried the food but the drinks are above average, they are made to order! Everything from frozen margaritas to ice cold drafts. I will absolutely come back to Gilligans if i ever find myself in siesta key again!

I'm a Florida native and this was the best Grouper sandwich I have ever had in my life. Friendly staff, lovely beachy atmosphere, and the price was right. We found our new favorite restaurant when we want to pretend we are on vacation. :)

Terrible experience. I understand now that this place is meant to be for drinks only, but because it claims to be a "bar and grill" we thought we could get a meal there. This was a mistake. It took over 10 minutes to get acknowledged by a server. After that, it took more than 30 minutes just to get beers. Our server said it was because they needed to switch the kegs, but I work in a restaurant, and switching kegs takes 3 minutes, not 30. The food got to us over an hour after our arrival. It was lousy- seemed like everything had been frozen. Just crapoy food, at an average price, that took way, way too long. Go there for drinks only. Don't eat a damned thing, and order from the bar, because you will never get service.

    (1)

Nice atmosphere and great drinks. Could be more seating, but seemed to work out. The bar is nice, as well as the dance floor. Went here on my 21st, bartender was very generous.

We went to Gilligan's Saturday night and had a less than great time. Out of the 9 of us who ordered food only 2 people ate theirs.. The food was lousy. The server never asked why most of the food was barely touched. They advertised Guinness cans for $4.50 each. when we got our bill we were charged $6.00 each. We showed the server the price that was advertised and after some back and forth he said he would check with the manager who he said wasn't going to change it anyhow. After a bit of a wait he informed us that he couldn't find the manager but he took one off the bill to make it right. Take from that what you will. No manager, but the server fixed it. All's well that ends well I guess. I'm not going back though.

  • Jacquie H.

Note to our sever, Jessica. A push-up bra does not guarantee a good tip. That said, our service turned out to be okay. Better than I expected-though we did have to wait 15 minutes for our drinks. I was disappointed that it was so smoky -even inside. C'mon people-the beaches are so pretty here-why ruin it with your stupid cigarette smoke?? It was a bit expensive but what do you expect for a "resort?" I would not go back however as there was no soap in the bathroom and I saw the bartender "wash" her hands with water. Unfortunately I witnessed this as we were waiting for our check. Gross.

My fiancé and I went to Gilligans last night for a late dinner and we had the most amazing time! I was undecided about what to eat for dinner and our server Alex recommended the Mahi tacos and my fiancé ordered the Grouper Sandwich, both were absolutely delicious. The music was great and the food was spectacular but the best part of our night was our hilarious and gregarious waitress! We loved her to death and can't wait to come visit her on our next family trip to Siesta Keys.

  • Jennifer G.

Seriously? How hasn't this been yelped yet either? Gilligan's is usually stop #2 or 3 on the Siesta key outings. After you have a couple daiquiris at the daiquiri deck you head over here to shake your booty. It's almost always hot and crowded, but its Sarasota people - there aren't very many options so go with it! Many a fun, drunken night at this place.

Went for a bachelorette weekend and this was one of the places we stopped. I did not order anything but it was a great place to dance!

    (4)
  • Rob B.

Food was horrible and WAAAY overpriced. My Margarita was barely palatable. By the way, how in the world can you screw up conch fritters? I should have known better because this place looks more like a bad dance club than a bar with decent food. Go to S.K.O.B. instead. Trust me on this one.

  • Lexi C.

Our server was great and yes, it might have been Jessica. We got the Spiced Rum and Coke for $5 and it was pretty strong (unlike the Daq Deck across the street). Food was nothing to rave over but it wouldn't stop me from a 2nd trip. The music was good and the energy of the place was fun. I got a hamburger but next time might try the blackened grouper. Prices are consistent with overpriced Sarasota. Wish it had a water view. But it's Siesta Key and that's how it is.

Good cold beers, great live music and snarky humor from the waitstaff. Awesome place to waste a Saturday!

  • Celia B.

This place is okay. Stopped here after a few hours on the beach. We liked that we could sit outside and that they have little misters to help you cool off on a hot day. Although the beer selection was horrible (a common problem in Sarasota, most places only serve bud-light type beers) the beer was only $1.50. Our waitress greeted us immediately and gave us the bill promptly. We did not try any food. We would probably come back if they had a better selection of beer, but the outside atmosphere was nice and the service was good.

Gilligan's is on the Siesta Strip (or whatever they want to call the main drag). It's one of multiple bars but one of the few I ventured into. It's linked to the "metro-esque" oontz-oontz music bar but if you can ignore that and the chain smokers inside then you'll have fun. August is not tourist season so it was pretty sparse, which I enjoyed. We bellied up to the outside bar and had a wonderful little blond bartender that whipped up some goodies for us. Outdoor seating is great and you can hit the front patio and watch everyone across the street at Daiquiri Deck acting like idiots after 12AM and feel better about yourself. There were a couple pool tables, lots of little fun group spots to sit and chat, 3 bars total and plenty of cheesy music to shake your booty to. We missed the Sublime cover band but I hear they have some great live music there.

Dude, uh, we're here from Flyover Country University on Spring Break, where do we go for the drunken babes at 1 am?? Need some totally cool, crowded place with lotsa people floating around with fake id's, any tips? Gilligans, you say?

I have been going to Gilligans since 2004. I always have a great time the people who work there are very nice and it's always a great crowd of locals and tourist. Wednesday is Ladies night and always full of fun hot sexy woman having a great time. Friday and Saturday nights are a blast for dancing the night away with the good mix of music and if dancing isn't your thing you can belly up to one of the bars or chill out watching the crowd on the deck out front or even relax by a warm fire outside in the courtyard. Gilligans has it all from great drinks to a great staff and something for everyone to enjoy. Pool tables, TV with sports, lounge area and dancing. I can't wait to go back When your ready for a drink ask For Flip to make it an have him show you some of his moves.Chek out Gilligans you will have fun.

  • S B.

Haven't eaten here. Usually stop in late at night for dancing & drunken good times. There isn't much for 20-somethings in Sarasota, so this is one of the best for good music and good times!

  • J.W. H.

Not a place to eat, but a nice local hangout bar to have a few pops. Thursday nights is a 2 man band called RPM that is pretty good and occasionally will have Larry Crane from Mellencamps old band sitting in. Much better than the overpriced crap from the Daquiri Deck. More stars if the food was better.

When taking a break from reality or the beach scene at Siesta Key Beach, Gilligan's is sure to deliver a great experience. I decided to visit a group of friends who were in Siesta Key village for the duration of the weekend. Upon arrival I immediately noticed that Gilligans is a great go-to spot, replete with an awesome Key West style vibe and great drink and food offerings. On the particular day I went it was Satueday and there was an awesome live band jamming out. Suing my visit I was exclusively on the side patio which in also connect to and leads to the back patio where there is a stage where he bad plays. The bartenders were friendly and inventive with their drunk selections and concocted us a unique shot I had never had before. The service and quality of what was served was on point. My only gripe is that there isn't a parking lot to accommodate patrons but there is parking available in the downtown area that is a quick walk. I will surely stop by Gilligans again next time I'm in the area.

Ladies and gents Gillian's was a fun place to visit with a live band. My wife had the coconut shrimp and they were very good. My daughter had a hotdog and fries and wiped the plate clean. My other daughter had a grilled cheese with fries. The waitress was attentive and lively. Great atmosphere and an all around good time. Funny thing was I thought they had a juke box playing but it was a live person and sounded very good. The bill was also very inexpensive but no alcohol was ordered.

Food was ok... Normal bar food. Much better places to eat on siesta key. Live music was good! Bar staff was a little snotty. I had about 8 jack and diets (don't judge me). Every time I had to ask for a lime. Bartender seemed more interested in talking to his friends.

Gilligans is always our first stop for a drink when we get to Siesta Key. Fun bartenders, Chrissy is our favorite to spend Happy Hour with. Have always had good food here. Mahi Mahi sliders and shrimp were excellent. Stop by!

I heard this place got crazy packed during the high season, but stumbled here on out way back from Sarasota. It was football Sunday and we wanted to have a few cocktails and watch the game. It wasn't very crowded, so the service was good. I had a few of their specialty blended drinks which were pretty good. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. The only complaint is that I got their hummus plate. The food tastes fine, but it was tiny and the price markup was a little excessive. I would probably just stick to cocktails if I returned. With that said, this place is definitely your typical touristy bar (so you can't blame them for taking advantage). As I am now a local, I will probably try to leave this place for the patrons it was intended for.

  • William M.

Outstanding service, we arrived in the middle of the day and were taken care of with a friendly waitress. The outside is the type of grubby environment you enjoy down in mexico. It seems like the type of place that can really turn up at night. (Good night spot). The Buckets' are a favorite, and they come out looking really fun. We had the strawberry lemonade, which packed a punch. It was extremely sweet. The nachos should come with chili standard. Without the chili these things would be rather boring.

  • Melissa Z.

1.5 stars. The food is edible, but with so many other choices on the key, this is bar far the worst food. I am convinced that the only reason this place hasn't gone under is the fact that it is one of the closest restaurants at the beach and people are too hot and weary to go any further. The only redeeming quality is the patio and general wide open layout of the interior, but even our table on the patio was tilted and the chairs were unfortable. The server was slower than a blue-hair at a buffet.

    (1)
  • Carol C.

Very mediocre food, even more mediocre service. I would not go back. The waitstaff was downright rude and unwelcoming. I was ready for some half decent cheap eats, good old simple fried stuff, not expecting gourmet at all and looking forward to it, but everything was underwhelming even considering the low expectations.

Went to Gillian's for dinner on Saturday night around 8:30 pm. The service was great, from the hostess to our server, however the food was less than. We started with fried pickles, sooo good. I got the grouper sandwich (market price $10.99), grilled, for my entree with a side of fries. The sandwich came out with an ice cold bun, not toasted, and fries to match. My server gladly brought out new fries that were nice and hot. Half way into my grouper I discovered multiple pin bones. Ughhhhh. The server took it back and removed it from my check without a question. The atmosphere is cute, tiki torches and all, but don't eat here.

Went for appetizers and drinks in the late afternoon. We chose Gilligan's as it looked like a fun atmosphere- boasting a covered porch with a nice street view and a retro vibe. Unfortunately, the appetizers were dismal - I'm talking Pace Picante sauce for the chips and salsa and lukewarm wings. The drinks were overpriced and lacked booze for the amount of sugar they contained. And don't go inside- the floors and restrooms are dingy and dirty. Gilligans' cutesy and charming look was quickly overshadowed by it's lack of quality.

  • Kyle C.

Got a big ol Pail of booze. Got an Asian rocknroll band playing. hot as shit. Waiters cute.

  • Aaron H.

Solid grouper sandwich, but not great. Loved the long island iced tea bucket (a nice memento which I still have at home). Prices were good, and the overall service was friendly. The breezy outdoor atmosphere was heightened by the oldies cover band. The "nightclub side" was a bit unkempt and a little too drunk and rowdy during late nights (but that's what it's there for, I suppose). My wife and I did enjoy the restaurant side, so I'm sure we'd consider coming back on our next trip to Siesta Key.

I was a regular at this establishment for 2 years. Just went back today after taking a break due to a not so positive experience. My experience today was awful. Very poor service. The draft beer was flat. Food took forever. They have lost my business. Not going back.

Great drinks and great location! Piña coladas were fantastic! Did not try any food so I can't review this place on that. Give it a try. The ambience is great

In a town with so many options, you would think most places would want to stand above the rest. We didn't choose this place, met friends there who apparently aren't foodies and just wanted a centrally located place. The food was bland. Couldn't even eat sweet potatoe fries. Not even sure how you could ruin those but they managed. Bland tuna, tasteless nachos. We missed happy hour so the drink prices were higher than what we shoulda paid. Beer in bottle wasn't ruined. Service was offered with a smile, hence 2 stars
